We here at Clutch Masters are stoked on this one. Introducing our DCT flywheel for the Audi RS3 / TTRS and DQ500 transmission. This flywheel is a ground up design built around the OE flywheel specs. Unlike the factory flywheel that fails when you start to modify and increase the output of the 2.5L Turbo 5-cylinder engine, the Clutch Masters flywheel is designed to handle seriously high-powered setups. We first focused on making the hub as strong as possible to be able to handle as much torque as we could possible engineer into it. In our computer simulation stress analysis tests, our hardened 4140 billet steel hub is showing it is capable of handling up to 3500 ft/lbs of torque before failure. That is over 3x more torque capacity then other options available today. This flywheel will also work on other Audi and VW engine applications using the same crank bolt pattern as the RS3 such as the 2.0L turbo engines when swapping over to a DQ500 transmission. We will also have 6 and 10 bolt varieties available soon for other generations of VW engines and using the DQ500 transmission. Also available will be DQ250 and DQ380 transmission flywheel options.

Historically, high performance clutches have been a compromise. While improving holding or clamping pressure, manufacturers nearly always increase pedal pressure to an uncomfortable point, especially for stop-and-go driving.

Placing undue stress on the thrust bearing typically causes the bearing to wear prematurely or fail altogether. This failure can lead to catastrophic internal engine damage.

A clutch, simply put, is a friction device that disengages and engages the engine from the transmission to allow for transition from motionless to movement and for gear changes. For street applications a smooth transition of power is essential while still being able to transfer all the power of the engine to the transmission. As the power output of modified engines increases and demands on clutches become greater, the holding and clamping capacity of a clutch must also increase.
